The first hand proofers that prevent ink formulation problems resulting from proofing aniloxes that don’t match press aniloxes . . . these are totally new proofing tools.
They are the only hand proofers designed for 2” diameter aniloxes. According to Apex spokesperson, Mr. Aaron Lessing, “It’s always been a simple matter of geometry.
Physically, it’s impossible to engrave an industry-standard 1” diameter proofing anilox with many of the higher cell count/volume combinations operators use on-press. That means ink proofing accuracies for many jobs are compromised before the ink is even mixed. "But the 2” aniloxes used in these new proofers eliminate that problem completely. And when you consider how much it costs to be correcting ink on-press, more accurate lab proofs easily save virtually any plant several hundred dollars each and every day."
The importance of matching a proofing tool to the press on which the ink will run has been realized now for several years. However, in situations where the job requires a press with higher cell count/volume aniloxes, ink labs have been forced to guess which of their proofing aniloxes might come closest to emulating the coverage characteristics which will be encountered on press.
